• Introduction to AIS services at the K-3 Level

    Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is designed to help students achieve the NYS Learning Standards. This is accomplished through additional instruction that supports the general curriculum or by addressing barriers to improved academic performance.

  • The following assessments are given to students on an individual needs basis: 

    • Basal levels tests
    • Woodcock-Johnson
    • WISC
    • WIAT
    • Stanford-Binet
    • Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children
    • McCarthy Scales
    • WPPST
    • Orton-Gillingham

    The following are referred to asses individual needs:

    • Behavior checklists
    • Discipline records
    • Attendane record
    • Physical disabilities screening
    • Homework record
  • High Intensity Need

    Level NI or D/F on report card - below 25th percentile

    Moderate Intensity Need

    Level NI or D/F on Report Card - 25th to 50th percentile

    Low Intensity Need

    Teacher recommendation or Student Support Team recommendation

Level of Intensity Descriptions K-3 Math

  • High Intensity Need:

    • Level 1 or NI or D/F on Local Assessment (varies with rubric used)
    • Level NI or D/F on report card - below 25th percentile

    Moderate Intensity Need:

    • Level 2 or S or D on Local Assessment
    • Level NI or D/F on Report Card 25th -50th percentile

    Low Intensity Need:

    • Teacher recommendation or Student Support Team recommendation
