  • At its annual budget vote and board election Tuesday, May 16, voters took action to approve the school district's $103.8 million spending plan, which includes a 2.31 percent budget increase, below the state-allowed tax cap. The estimated impact on a $100,000 home would be $19.

Voters also approved a bus proposition, that will be paid for out of the district's transportation reserve fund, thereby costing taxpayers no additional dollars. The proposition authorizes the board of education to expend $964,236 to purchase seven 65-passenger school buses at an estimated maximum cost per bus of $117,433 and one 42-passenger school bus at an estimated maximum cost of $142,205.

Finally, voters decided among six candidates for three vacant board of education seats and the following tally was recorded.

    Nargis Hossain - 996

    Patrick Uhteg - 2165

    Melissa Studley - 1088

    Bonita Brown - 783

    Glenn Jackson - 2158

    Michael Sage - 2079

Congratulations to our board members, and thank you to everyone who came out to take time to support our students!

In the Spotlight

May/June 2017

Dear Hillview Families,

There are many special, culminating events and activities in store for our students throughout May and June.  Some of these events include the “All Children Exercise Simultaneously” (A.C.E.S.) Program on May 1st, the Color Run on May 12th, the Third Grade Spring Concert on May 24th, a Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th, the Hillview Field Day on June 16th and the Third Grade Moving Up Day Ceremony on June 21st.  In addition, our PTO thoughtfully sponsors a variety of fun and educational field trips for all students to enjoy from now until the end of June.  Please refer to the attached calendars for additional details.

On behalf of the Hillview staff, I want to express how grateful we are to the PTO and to our parent volunteers for all of the time they invest and for all of the wonderful things they do for our students and school.  So many families fundraised and donated their time throughout the school year.  The last PTO meeting of the school year will be held on May 9th in the Hillview library media center at 6:30 PM.  We hope to see you there.

In addition, the school thanks everyone who was able to donate to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute with the Goin’ Bald for Bucks fundraiser.  Hillview raised over $2,700 to support this great cause.  We will celebrate this tremendous accomplishment at our May 3rd “Gift of the Month” assembly.

Our incoming kindergartners will be screened at the school from May 15th – May 19th.  We look forward to visiting with our new Hillview friends.  Kindergarten Orientation will take place on June 22nd from 10:00 – 11:00 am.  At the orientation, students will take a short bus ride and have an opportunity to talk with all of the kindergarten teachers in the cafeteria.  Parents will have ample opportunities to learn about the school.

With warmer weather approaching us, classes will be taking turns on the playground.  Please ensure that your child wears sneakers to school so that he/she can safely participate in the playground fun.  Students are not allowed to wear flip flops, and they will need to adhere to the school’s dress code policy as well.  Please contact the school if you have any questions about the dress code.

We look forward to fun field trips, along with a memorable conclusion to another fantastic school year.  We learned so much, and we modeled great character.  Every person in this school community, including students, staff members and family members, make Hillview such a positive and rewarding place to be, work and learn every day.  Lastly, please remember to vote on May 16th in the LHS Java Gym.

Best wishes,

Mrs. Moeller
